When Was The Last Time You Checked Your Carbon Monoxide Detector?
Don't Delay!

Colder temperatures mean the heating season is officially here and Adam’s Air is reminding all Ontario home and business owners to test and/or check the batteries in their carbon monoxide (CO) detectors.
Do you need a special device to detect carbon Monoxide?
Yes. CO is a gas that you cannot see, taste, or smell. It is often called the “invisible killer.” This gas is created when fuel-burning appliances, such as furnaces, wood-burning stoves, water heaters, and clothes dryers do not efficiently burn all the fuel they need to function. This can be caused by malfunctioning parts, as well as an accumulation of leaves, snow, and ice, that can quickly cause toxic levels of carbon monoxide to collect inside your home.
Especially at risk are young children. They process differently than adults, so they may experience more severe side effects and show signs of poisoning much sooner than adults in the same house.
The four most common symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning include:
Headache
Nausea
Drowsiness
Confusion
These symptoms are often mistaken for Families in the early stages of influenza. Prolonged exposure to CO can cause unresponsiveness and even death. Having your furnace or heating system cleaned and checked annually not only ensures your heating system is ready for the cold winter months, but also checks to be sure there are no leaks and that there are no back drafts that can cause gases to leak inside your house. Carbon Monoxide leaks are dangerous, and every precaution should be taken to protect you and your family from it.
This dangerous gas can easily spread throughout your home. Furnace maintenance is number one, but there are other measures you can take to protect yourself and your family.
Ensure CO detectors are properly installed and according to local codes.
Get into the habit of changing the batteries in your CO detectors each spring and fall.
Make sure gas appliances are properly vented to go outdoors.
Do not operate generators indoors.
Do not leave a car running in an attached garage even if the garage door is open.
