Most air conditioners operate with a little noise, but they should not emit strange odors. If you get a strange smell every time your AC turns on, it is an indication of a problem.


Different odours denote different issues. Dirty evaporator coils can cause your AC to generate a musty smell like a gym locker. The evaporator coils, which can develop mold and bacteria buildup due to condensation, are a common reason for this odour.
