Emergency Kit 101
Adam’s Air Wants You To Stay Safe This September!

September is National Preparedness Month. This observance recognizes the importance of family and community disaster planning. The severity and frequency of natural and man-made disasters are on the rise. Disasters now directly affect over 200 million people annually.
Do you have a plan? The best defense is to make a plan now to keep your family and pets safe in the future. Developing an emergency plan begins with an understanding of what can happen. It is important to know which types of disasters could affect your area and how you can deal with them.
One of the most common effects of severe weather is power outages. Some may only be a few hours, while many last days. Be prepared when the power goes out by assembling a kit.
Include the following items, at a minimum:
· Flashlights and fresh batteries
· Battery-powered radios or televisions
· Candles, matches, or lighters
· Water for drinking and cooking
·Hand sanitizer
· Portable heater (oil or gas)*
· Camping equipment (sleeping bags, camp stoves, lanterns)
· Emergency blankets
· Nonperishable food and a manual can opener
Manufacturers instructions for power-operated equipment such as the garage door, generator
· Important medicines you need to take. Better to locate them while the power is still on than fumbling around in the dark should the power go out.
Being prepared can make dealing with a disaster a little easier. The team at Adam’s Air is here for you with emergency service available 24/7.
* Caution: Some portable heaters can cause fires or other safety hazards when not used as specified by the manufacturer. Be sure to review the safety specifications of your specific model before using it during an outage.
